Job description:

Are you motivated to work alongside our talented decarbonisation team to support our water sector clients plan and deliver projects and programmes of work differently while meeting their decarbonisation ambitions?  Are you passionate about sustainability and eager to support the water sector, become Net Zero and resilient to climate change? Do you enjoy working within multidisciplinary teams to create pathfinding decarbonisation programmes? The role will be in the Decarbonisation Team which sits in the wider Climate Change and Sustainability Business for our Europe Region. senior consultant, you will initially focus working for our UK water sector clients and play a key role in helping them shape and embed decarbonisation programmes and help us grow our decarbonisation services in AMP8. You will also be responsible to be encouraged to collaborate with our resilience, sustainability and asset management teams to provide more systemic and innovative thinking to our clients to help them meet their current investment and delivery challenges in a more sustainable manner. 

 

As senior consultant, you will be able to lead the delivery of the technical and environmental aspects of your projects and you will have full support from more experienced members of our team. You will also be responsible to provide guidance to early career professionals in our teams. This will involve supporting our project principals develop and deliver for our clients decarbonisation strategies, low carbon design integration, undertake and/or oversee qualitative and quantitative whole life carbon assessments among other activities.  

 

Our clients are facing significant challenges from climate change, population growth and need to change business practices quickly whilst managing sustainable growth expectations. In the UK Water sector there is significant pressure to decarbonise the delivery of nearly a £100bn of capital investment over the next 5 years, which is needed to resolve some of important regulatory drivers such as sewerage spills into the environment and improve the resilience of services. Additionally, water companies have set their own carbon reduction levels of ambition. We are in a unique position supporting most UK water companies define and deliver their decarbonisation efforts.  

 

We are looking for professionals with experience within the water sector to join our UK team, who understand our sector’s regulatory challenges and who have a strong understanding and/or demonstrable experience in the fields of decarbonisation and/or wider sustainability. Your experience can be in a consultant, asset owner/operator, contractor or other parts of the water sector value chain.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a passion for building a career in solving complex challenges in infrastructure. You will have the motivation to embrace additional areas of learning in climate change, systems thinking, nature or circular economy, to ensure that we offer comprehensive and technically excellent advisory services to our UK water sector clients.

Candidate specification:

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Degree qualified in an engineering, asset management, science, environmental or other relevant subject. 
  • Industry experience with utilities, preferably in the water sector
  • Industry experience in infrastructure projects/programmes of work relevant to asset management, planning, design or delivery
  • Knowledge of efforts taken in infrastructure and/or water utilities, to reduce the whole life carbon impact of construction and the built environment. 
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Numerical skills

 

 

Desired skills and experience: 

  • Chartership or equivalent professional qualification (or working towards such qualification) with a relevant environmental, engineering or asset management professional institution. 
  • Applied knowledge of PAS 2080 or other carbon management guidance/standards in organisations and/or individual projects and programmes of work. 
  • Willingness to actively embrace on and off the job training in areas such as decarbonisation, climate resilience, systems thinking, nature-based solutions and/or circular economy. 
  • A broader awareness of other environmental and social disciplines.
  • Technical project management skills
